Why the new story?

Jul 2005

The new story came about for many reason, the main one being I was seeing a lot of fan fiction remixes being held and I would have loved for Queertet to be remixed – but at the same time, I didn’t want anyone else to do it.

Another reason was that I was sick of being asked when Sun was going to be finished. It wasn’t a particularly good story, Smoke and Snow were good enough, I guess, but anyone (surely?) could tell that we were losing interest as Breeze progressed. By the time Sun rolled around we were exhausted. Neither of us have any interest in finishing that story, so it’s dead.

And finally, I wished to reclaim the name Queertet. I was the one to come up with it, but it belonged to a series I had co-written with an author I haven’t really spoken to since 2002. That sounds petty, doesn’t it? Well, so what? We all have our little quirks.

I emailed Vic and asked her if I could remix Queertet, she was agreeable, so I did.

Initially it wasn’t a co-write. It was me writing the story and Carla beta-ing and, eventually, writing snippets for me. Carla never had any intention of these snippets being in the final cut of Queertet Revisited, they were just gifts to me to keep me writing, and perhaps put on the QR page as interludes or AUs. Instead, I demanded that she write with me. So we brainstormed. The main hook of the story was pretty solid in my mind, I was a little fuzzy around the edges, but I knew how it would pan out eventually. With Carla’s input, we have now widened the net to include a fair amount of characters (you can pretty much tell which ones she has claimed, to quote Carla “GOLDIE THE MAN!”).

So we’re writing together, having a blast. You may think we’re going slowly, after all, we’ve only posted five chapters so far. Just so you know, as of 10 July 2005 (as I write this), we’re up to at least chapter 14, with plenty of snippets written for the future as inspiration hits. The problem is, we’re not writing this in a particularly linear fashion (something that’s killing Carla, no doubt, she’s a planner), we have completed the story up to chapter 12, but chapter 6 is missing, and we think the chapters we have written need re-jigging. And the two chapters after chapter 12 may need to be pushed back or moved forwards. So, it’s all pretty confusing. We have the story, we have written it down, now we just need to organise it.

Oh, and coming up with chapter titles sucks.

Take it easy, we’ll keep writing.

A Note About the Original Queertet Series

Jun 2005

Dear Fandom,

Vic and Star have a request:

Would you kindly shut up about Queertet Original and let it rest in peace. The fic is dead. Leave it be.

The Original Queertet has died, Vic and Star have mourned, in their own separate ways, Star gave in to alcoholism and could be found begging quarters off tramps for another bottle of ale, and Vic did time in Westin Hills, a mental institution in Ohio. It’s sad but true.

However, both have managed to move on. Star manages to get to at least three AA meetings a week, and has, for the most part, stopped hallucinating. Vic has been released from psychiatric care, but now speaks exclusively in a French accent and responds only to the name Sasha.

They have moved on. It’s about time you guys did as well.

In all seriousness, we burned ourselves out writing Smoke, Snow, Breeze and half of Sun in such a short space of time. We were mentally exhausted by the fic at the end of it.

That was two years ago, we are now very different people, with very different interests. Even if we wanted to come back to Queertet – and let’s face it, it’s been a long time, better fics have come along – we don’t think we could. It’s no longer an important story to us, we both have different projects happening, and we’d rather live in the now. We’re pleased as punch that people still like the story, and we’re sorry we burnt out before finishing it, but please, can the emails stop?

Please stop asking for it to be. We don’t have the time, the interest or the inclination to continue with it. It’s old, it’s dead, it’s over.

However, Queertet Revisited (Star’s pet project) is almost finished and is being polished word by word by my beta. I (Star) would like to ask that any reviews left on Queertet Revisited only relate to Queertet Revisited and not the original. I don’t think you guys realise how soul destroying it is to have every single review contain, “Cool, but don’t leave it when you get bored like you did last time”. That’s not a review, that’s a slam. Nobody gave me this much hassle over Shoebox – which, might I point out, I didn’t “get bored of” and “give up on” – why should Queertet Revisited be any different? [Star’s addition: see here for why the remix came about]

Please, you are actually really hurting my (Star’s) feelings over this. Yes, Vic and I gave up on Queertet, because we were exhausted and it wasn’t fun any more, but don’t hold it against us for the rest of our lives. After all, it’s just a story.

Welcome to The Mighty Queertet, a fansite for the Mighty Ducks, with a heavy slant on slash fic (though het and gen is more than welcome - I ship Charlie/Linda harder than I ship Charlie/Adam, but not quite as much as I ship Charlie/Fulton, just for context!)

The site was established on 21st April 2002, so we're pretty old now, and not so much down with the kids, the archive doesn't update much, mostly this is now a nostalgia site, but if you want to add your fic or say something, please do so.
